KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Monique Currie scored six points in the final 1:41 and No. 10 Duke upset fourth-ranked Tennessee 59-57 on Thursday night, becoming only the seventh team in 17 years to beat the Lady Vols in Thompson-Boling Arena.
The Lady Vols (4-2) have lost only 14 times at home since the arena opened in 1987, the most recent coming a year ago to Connecticut.
Tennessee could not overcome poor shooting for the third straight game. The Lady Vols shot 28 percent (21-of-75) and were outrebounded 53-42.
Currie scored 16 of her 20 points in the second half and had nine rebounds. Mistie Williams added 14 points and Jessica Foley had 11 for the Blue Devils, who looked just fine without last year's leaders Alana Beard and Iciss Tillis in their first game in Knoxville.
Currie made two free throws to put Duke (6-1) ahead 55-53, and Tye'sha Fluker had a putback to tie it. Currie made a jumper at the other end, but Shyra Ely scored on a putback to tie it at 57 with 47.9 seconds left.
At the other end, Currie drove to the basket for an easy layup that put the Blue Devils ahead for good.
Williams missed a free throw, and Shanna Zolman missed two 3-pointers in the final 13 seconds.
Zolman scored 17 of her 19 points after halftime, and Ely finished with 15 points and eight rebounds.
Tennessee leads the series, 4-3.
Tennessee shot 32 percent in their recent win against Temple and 33 percent a week ago in a loss at Texas that dropped the Lady Vols from the No. 1 spot.
Tennessee led by as many as six points in the second half after going on a 10-4 run after halftime.
Duke responded with a 10-3 run that included eight points by Foley to retake the lead with 12:09 remaining.
Besides Duke and Connecticut, the other teams to win in Knoxville since 1987 were Texas, Louisiana Tech, Auburn, Georgia and Stanford.
