Sacramento High School's Vicki Baugh, considered by many to be the area's best-ever girls basketball player, has signed a letter of intent to play for the University of Tennessee next fall.
The 6-foot-4 senior forward-guard made her decision Tuesday night and called Tennessee coach Pat Summitt with the news.
Baugh said as late as yesterday she was choosing among UCLA, Oklahoma, LSU, Cal and Tennessee.
"It was really last minute," Baugh said. "It really came down to that they were willing to let me play the position I'm most comfortable with, which is point guard."
Baugh, last year's Bee Player of the Year as a junior, signed her letter of intent at a school ceremony Wednesday morning along with boy's basketball standout Fred Ellis, who is bound for Baylor on scholarship.
During the summer, Baugh played for Team USA in the FIBA U-18 Championships in Colorado Springs, Colo., helping her team win a gold medal.
When she returned to class at Sac High in August, Baugh had about 30 full-ride offers on the table, according Davin Johnson, her AAU coach.
