Pat Summitt to be inducted into TN Women's Hall of Fame

Lady Vols coach Pat Summitt will be inducted into the Tennessee Women's Hall of Fame on June 17.

According to a release, officials are inducting Summit into the hall of fame for her "unparalleled contributions to the lives of women and girls throughout the State through her leadership and example."

The ceremony will take place at the Airport Marriot in Nashvillle.

For more information on the event, read the following release:

NASHVILLE, TN - The championship banners hang over the court that bears her name. The record books document her accomplishments in hard numbers and cold facts. Women's basketball, college and professional, will be changed forever by the numbers of players, coaches and administrators she's taught. But Pat Summitt is being inducted into the Tennessee Women's Hall of Fame because she has made unparalleled contributions to the lives of women and girls throughout the State through her leadership and example.

On June 17, 2011 at the Airport Marriott in Nashville, the Tennessee Economic Council on Women will induct Coach Summitt as the third member of its Tennessee Women's Hall of Fame. The award, which celebrates women whose lives reflect exceptional accomplishments and devotion to improving the economic status of women and girls in Tennessee, will be presented to Coach Summitt by Governor Bill Haslam.

"Although we are very proud of her record number of wins, it's her legacy of leadership that we're honoring. Her contribution to women and girls across the State of Tennessee go far beyond the basketball court and are more important than any record book could describe," said Dr. Carol Danehower, Chair of the Tennessee Economic Council on Women. The Hall of Fame's previous inductees are Jane Eskind and Martha Craig "Cissy" Daughtrey.

In addition to Governor Haslam, Coach Summitt will be joined by Vanderbilt Women's Basketball Coach Melanie Balcomb, UT Women's Athletics Director Joan Cronan, UT Associate Head Coach Holly Warlick and Billie Moore who coached a young Pat Head on the 1976 U.S. Women's Basketball silver-medal team.

The event will take place on June 17 at the Airport Marriott from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. and will include a luncheon. Tickets can be purchased at www.womenseconomicfoundation.org. For additional information, please call (615) 444-9663.
